Cape Coral Florida Museums

Alva Museum (239)728-3180, 21420 E. Pearl Street

2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. A quaint museum housing exhibits that  include an Indian canoe, household articles, instruments, clothing, fossils and photos of early settlers.  The collection is sponsored by the Alva Garden Club and is next to the historical Methodist Church.  The building which dates to 1909, housed the first library in South Florida.  Call for information or group tours.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 8 to 16, free for children younger than 8.  The museum boasts shells from all over the world and an exhibit on how shells form.  Five times a day, a video on shells is offered. 

Cape Coral Historical Sociery Museum (239)772-7037, 544 Cultural Park Blvd., Cape Coral, Fl. - Map It!

1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.  New exhibits and video of early Cape Coral and the old Waltzing Waters are on display.  Admission is $1 and free for children.  Group tours available by appointment.

Fort Myers Historical Museum (239)332-5955, 2300 Peck Street, Fort Myers, Fl. - Map It!

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.  Rotating exhibits on display.  Museum admission is $6 for adults, $5.50 for seniors and $3 for children ages 3 to 12.  Children younger than age 3 are admitted free.

All ages can learn about math, science and technology.  Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 p.m. weekends.  Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 3 to 16.

Imaginarium Hands-On Museum (239)337-3332, 2000 Cranford Ave, Ft. Myers, Fl. - Map It!

Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.  Hands-on exhibits, aquariums and an outdoor lagoon.  Dig for dinosaur bones, experience a hurricane, watch a 3-D movie and explore the pre-school area.  Hands-on fun shows daily.  Admission is $7 for adults, $6.50 for senior citizens, $4 for children ages 3 to 12, free for children younger than 3.

College of Life Foundation, Inc. (239)992-2184, 8661 Corkscrew Road, Estero, Fl. - Map It!

Open by appointment from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.. A museum filled with artifacts of early Koreshans, a communal colony that settled in Estero in 1894.  Personalized tours of the museum and the Theatre in the Woods are available.  No admission, but donations are accepted.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday from November to April.  Natural history and Calusa exhibits and gift shop.  Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children.

Collier County Historical Society (239)261-8164, 137 12th Ave. S., Naples, Fl - Map It!

1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday from November to April.  Tours are offered Fridays and Sundays during other months.  The last tour starts at 3:30 p.m. Historic Victorian Palm Cottage, the second oldest residence in Naples, is of tabby construction.  $6 donation

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.  Features 10,000 years of Collier County history, an archaeological lab, giant sloth, logging, locomotive and native Florida garden exhibits, Haldeman Research Library and two historic home sites.  Tours by appointment.  Free admission.

Teddy Bear Museum (239)598-2711

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.  The 8,000-square-foot museum offers a variety of exhibits, story hours and bear sculptures that afford great photo opportunities.  Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $3 for children between the ages of 4 and 12 and free for children younger than age 4.

Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center (941)575-5435

8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.  A nonprofit organization providing environmental education, recreation and research.  More than 3 miles of hiking trails and a discovery museum.  Free admission.

Florida Adventure Museum (941)743-1900,

The museum plans to reopen in March as the Charlotte County Historical Center.  It will have a new location in Charlotte Harbor at Bayshore Live Oak Park.  The historical center will provide an interactive environment in which visitors and residents of all ages may explore and appreciate the history, culture and natural surroundings of Charlotte County.  Call the Charlotte County Visitors Bureau for more information.
